We follow a strict no-smoking policy inside the house. You may ask the caretaker for an ashtray and smoke outside the house if you need to.
Pets are not allowed.
There is a good 4G connectivity for Airtel and Jio users, unless the weather is bad. Anyone who needs dedicated connection should carry an Airtel/Jio Sim and it works very good. We don’t have WiFi connection facility.
Bookings made for long weekends, festivals and blackout periods (sold-out dates, special festivals, Christmas & New Year) are non-refundable and non-changeable.
Makkumath is well connected by roads to different parts of Uttarakhand. Public and private vehicles connect the village with nearby cities and towns.
The nearest rail head is at Rishikesh which is just 178Kms away from Makkumath. One can easily get a cab or catch a local taxi for Makkumath from Rudraprayag which is 136Kms from the railway station.

To promote community-based tourism, the Himmotthan Society and MakeMyTrip Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Uttarakhand, have established charming cottages in Makkumath. These accommodations, designed for two guests, are equipped with essential amenities such as a double bed, chair, table, wardrobe, and a Western-style toilet. Managed by the women of the village, these homestays offer a warm and authentic experience, blending picturesque landscapes with local hospitality. Guests can savour traditional Garhwali cuisine, prepared with love by the hosts, while immersing themselves in the serene beauty of the region. Your day begins with a peaceful and refreshing morning in Makkumath. Wake up early to embark on a scenic village walk, perfect for bird watching amidst the tranquil surroundings. After a hearty breakfast, continue exploring the village, engaging with the friendly locals, and visiting the historic Makkumath Temple, the winter seat of Tungnath, the third Kedar. A short jungle hike along picturesque trails allows you to soak in the beauty of nature, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the forest. By evening, return to your stay, carrying the essence of the day’s adventures. A visit to Chopta Valley is a must—this breath-taking valley is adorned with Buransh (Rhododendron) trees, the state flower of Uttarakhand. From Chopta, embark on a 3.5Kms trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, standing at an elevation of 12073Feet. Another rewarding trek is the 2.5Kms trail to Deoriatal a beautiful lake amidst the lush greenery. Makkumath is an ideal destination for hiking, village tourism, and photography. Visit Raghunath Temple in Devprayag.

After breakfast, check-out and drive to Makkumath, a small, tranquil village perched at an elevation of 6900Feet is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This village holds significant religious importance as the winter abode of the idol from the Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. When the Tungnath Temple becomes inaccessible due to heavy snowfall, the idol of Lord Shiva is brought down to Makkumath, where it is worshipped until the temple reopens in the spring.

It’s the quaintest place you are likely to see en route, along with the famed bugyals (meadows) of the state peeking through towering trees, framed by snowy mountains in the distance. Chopta is the springboard for a 5km trek to Chandrashila Peak and Tungnath – one of the Panch Kedars (sacred Shiva temples).

As one wander through the charming lanes of Khirsu, one will witness the warmth of the locals who take pride in preserving their age-old customs and traditions in their daily life.
